A History of Now - Contemporary Collecting at Nantwich Museum
Nantwich Museum, Pillory Street, Nantwich, Cheshire, CW5 5BQ
As a Museum, we record and display everyday histories from The Romans to the 20th Century. But what would an 'Everyday History' of today look like? As part of an exploration into contemporary collecting and the community, Nantwich Museum will be running drop-in sessions between the 15th-18th of September.
We will be building a time capsule of contemporary stories. This will be stored in our collection. We will also be creating a temporary exhibition, inviting members of the public to contribute to our pinboard, creating space for current community stories. Participants will also have the option to contribute to an oral history bank, recording their stories and voices.
'A History of Now' invites participants to consider questions of Memory, Significance, Ephemerality, Time, and History. The event is about opening the doors of Nantwich Museum to see behind the curtain of how History is made, stored, and interpreted at the Museum.
