A Victorian Church with a difference
St. Michael & All Angels Church, Tonbridge Road, Maidstone, Kent, ME16 8JS
St Michael's is a Grade 2 listed building with a significant link to the later stage of the Oxford Movement. Designed by Arthur Blomfield in 1875, it has some impressive stained glass (most of it conceived as a programme illustrating Biblical episodes relating to the angels), a 'Father' Willis organ and some other distinctive elements (e.g. the fact that it has a narthex) that made a particular statement among Maidstone's Victorian churches. The church maintains its distinctiveness today in its appointments and style of worship.
