Albany Theatre: Secrets Of The Stage
The Albany Theatre, Albany Road, Coventry, West Midlands, CV5 6JQ
Adam will bring the building’s story to life - and might even share a ghostly tale or two! After Adam's talk, our brilliant technical team will lead exclusive backstage tours, giving you a rare glimpse into the inner workings of a theatre. Then, take a visual journey through time with our special photo exhibition, showcasing rare and iconic images of Albany Theatre from its earliest days.
Meet in the foyer and then go through to the Spotlight Studio, where local historian Adam Wood will talk you through the history of our 1930's theatre. From it's origins as a lecture hall in the old Technical College to housing homeless citizens in World War II and then it's opening, closing and re-opening as a theatre. Adam will also talk about the unique art deco architecture and share some stories of the Albany's more ghostly denizens, including the infamous Balcony Ghost...
Following the talk, our talented technical team will take the lead as they give you exclusive and unfiltered backstage access to the inner workings of a theatre. Take a peek round our dressing rooms, stage and learn about how a theatre runs from the people who run it.
Plus we'll have a photo exhibition on offer with old artefacts from the early days of the theatre to browse through, giving a look at our earliest productions and shows.
