Built on land given by Mr John Kaye of Clayton West, the foundation stone was laid by Lady Margaret Beaumont of Bretton Hall in 1872 and the church was consecrated and dedicated by Bishop Bickersteth of Ripon in 1875
Over the years stained glass windows were added depicting biblical stories as well as Christian saints.
The reredos was added from 1943-1946 and includes carvings of Celtic saints.
Another notable feature is the Wintour Memorial commemorating the death of Captain Charles John Wintour RN in the Battle of Jutland in 1916
