Alston Town Walk
Fairhill Recreation Ground, A689 (Nenthead Road), Alston, Cumbria, CA9 3HS
Once known for its quaint cobbled front street, Alston still has a lot of quirky charm. There are signs of living upstairs, a tradition left over from the days of the reivers; evidence abounds of Anglicans, Wesleyans, Primitives, Congregationalists, Catholics and Quakers, while the Mill Race that flows under the town has its own story. Hear about the bank raid of 1949 in which two men were murdered and one committed suicide.

Front Street is steep. Pavements can be uneven. There are cobbles and setts to walk over as well as steps along the walk.
