An Aerial View of Wicksteed Park's Architecture
Wicksteed Park, Kettering, Northamptonshire, NN15 6NJ
In the 100 years that Wicksteed Park has been open, much of the landscape and architecture has evolved—reflecting not only changing tastes and technologies but also the growing needs of the community it serves. From its early days as a pioneering leisure park envisioned by Charles Wicksteed to its current status as a cherished local landmark, the park has continually adapted while retaining its unique charm. In celebration of this year’s Heritage Open Days theme of architecture, we are delighted to host a special presentation that offers a unique perspective: a visual journey through time using aerial photography.
This presentation will showcase a series of captivating aerial views, from different decades, which illustrate the dramatic transformations that have taken place across the park’s grounds. Visitors will be able to see how key features—such as the boating lake, the playgrounds, gardens, and historic structures—have shifted, expanded, or been newly introduced over the years. The aerial vantage point not only highlights architectural changes but also reveals how the park’s layout and landscaping have been carefully shaped to balance recreation, beauty, and heritage.
