Apna Heritage: Show and Tell
Feversham Primary Academy, Harewood Street, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD3 9EG
Apna Heritage invites you to a special Heritage Open Day celebrating South Asian history, culture, and community. This family-friendly event is designed to bring together different generations — youngsters, parents, and elders — for a day of discovery, storytelling, and connection.
Inspired by the spirit of an antiques roadshow, we’re inviting families to bring along treasured heirlooms, old photographs, letters, books, cassettes, and other artefacts from their family’s past. These items will be displayed and discussed, sparking conversations about personal and shared histories. We focus especially on areas of northern Pakistan and AJK, such as the Pothohar, Punjab, Attock, and Mirpur, as this is where most of the local community traces their origins.
Activities are intergenerational and will include tracing family trees, exploring migration stories, and viewing photography exhibits — all contributing to a living and dynamic community archive.
We will have template family trees for children and adults to fill in, encouraging everyone to start or continue exploring their roots. Whether you know a little or a lot, this is a chance to learn more about where you come from and share that knowledge with others.
Traditional South Asian food will be served, offering a taste of home and a chance to connect over shared culture.
Come along for a fun, engaging, and meaningful day celebrating the rich stories that make up our shared heritage. Everyone is welcome!
