Architectural Tour of the University of Leeds campus
The Parkinson Building, The University of Leeds, Woodhouse Lane, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS2 9JT
The University of Leeds is blessed with a remarkable campus. Despite being within a short walk of Leeds' commercial and shopping hub, it is an extensive, varied and largely road-free site full of characterful buildings and welcoming landscaping. It is our main centre of learning and research, a residential district for many of our students and the place of work for thousands of members of staff.
Over the years our campus has evolved and grown significantly. The University's students numbered around 200 when we were granted a royal charter in 1904; today it supports the education of over 35,000 students and houses facilities for world-leading research across many fields. Several distinct expansions over the years have enriched the campus with a wide variety of architecture. The area between Woodhouse Lane and Chancellor's Court is particularly varied, including houses predating the University through some of our earliest purpose-built buildings to examples from the major 20th Century masterplans and one of our newest buildings.
The tour will take us along a route through this area of campus starting at the landmark Parkinson Building on Woodhouse Lane. It will include a mix of internal and external spaces and will offer generally level access (with lifts available at level changes). We expect it to take around 2 hours, finishing in the brutalist Roger Stevens lecture theatre building in the centre of campus.
We look forward to seeing you here!
