A free exhibition chronicling the books, articles and cartoons written by A H Patterson

Born in humble circumstances in a Great Yarmouth 'row', this free exhibition chronicles the life of Arthur Patterson (1857-1935) through his writings and cartoons. An insurance agent, postman, pedlar, zookeeper, warehouseman, showman and finally school attendance officer (for 20 years) Patterson was the only sibling to survive his humble upbringing in poverty.

Patterson penned nearly 30 books, sketches and over 1000 cartoons for local newspapers and wrote countless articles for learned journals. Encouraged by the Duchess of Bedford, finally he was elected as an Associate of the Linnean Society in 1935, the last year of his life, to cement his massive contribution to nature in East Norfolk.
