AudaTours Norwich Audio Tour: At Work
St George's Street, Norwich, Norfolk, NR3 1AA
This self-guided audio walk starts at Strangers' Hall and follows 17 stops through Norwich at street level, with headphones and the route in the app. Expect about 2 hours of audio and around 3 hours in total, including walking time.
The tour ties together the city’s everyday working life: the weaver’s window, the sealing hall, the closing-room Singer, the insurance clerk’s desk, the bargee’s chain ferry and the places where Norwich’s money was made, moved, sold and stitched. Along the way you pass a 1670 weaver’s cottage, the Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell, Blackfriars' Hall, Sherwyn House, Erpingham Gate, Pulls Ferry, Jarrolds, Norwich Market, the Royal Arcade, Norwich Castle, Surrey House and Dragon Hall. What makes Norwich distinctive is the way these workplaces sit inside a compact medieval city that was also shaped by Dutch-speaking strangers, the Bridewell house of correction, the Wensum canal, shoe factories, insurance offices and department stores.
The route links those threads without rushing them, so the buildings, shopfronts and yards can do the talking.
