A self-guided audio tour of Southport, exploring the dockers, fishermen and seafront workers who built the resort.

This self-guided audio walk has 11 stops and starts at Marine Lake, Southport. Follow the route in the app with headphones as you move from the Promenade and seafront into Lord Street and down to the railway terminus.

The tour lasts about 1 hour of audio, or around 2 hours in total including walking.

It traces the everyday work that kept a resort running: the pleasure-boat shed and bath-house, the pier tramway and lifeboat station, the hotel tap-room at the Bold, the sheltered arcade at Wayfarers, the library at The Atkinson, and the old Lord Street station frontage before finishing at Southport railway station. This Southport version of Everyday Histories is grounded in the people behind the resort: pleasure-boat crews on Marine Lake, bath-chair men on the Promenade, pier workers, the men of the Eliza Fernley, landlord John Halfrey, entrepreneur John Humphrey Plummer, cotton manufacturer William Atkinson, and the Cheshire Lines clerks and porters who worked the line at the end of the route.
