AudaTours Warwick Audio Tour: The Town Behind the Walls
Warwick Castle, Warwick, Warwickshire, CV34 4SS
Follow a self-guided audio walk through Warwick’s streets and stop points with headphones, using the route in the app as you go.
The tour has 9 stops, with about 1 hour of audio and around 1 hour total including the walk.
It begins at Castle Mill and Old Bridge, then takes in Warwick Castle, Oken’s House, Market Place, St Mary’s, the Court House, the Fire Rebuilding Act streetline on High Street, Lord Leycester Hospital, and West Gate and St James’s Chapel. This version of Warwick focuses on the people usually left out of the castle postcard: the armourers and mill-tenants who kept the stronghold working, the named craftsmen behind Beauchamp’s tomb, the workers who rebuilt after the 1694 fire, the veterans and wives at the almshouse, the mercer Thomas Oken, and the mason Francis Smith. It is a walk through contracts, trades, and rebuilding, where names survive in records and labour survives in the streets.
