David Blyth and Hugh Hales live in Bank House Halesworth. They opened the House to the Public for the first time in 2019 for Heritage Open Days. The house has long banking and Quaker connections. In 1782 the bankers Gurneys & Co opened their first branch in Halesworth, which in 1855 became Barclays Bank then they purchased the two adjoining cottages to create an impressive Banking Hall which resulted in removing 7 rooms from Bank House. David and Hugh purchased Barclays Bank when it closed in 2018 starting the reinstatement in 2019 (at the height of the Pandemic), the works were completed in just over 3 years, including the reinstatement of the 7 rooms previously lost when they were demolished by Barclays to extended Barclays Banking Hall in 1855. Bank House was the home for twenty years of Priscilla Buxton, the anti-slavery campaigner and her family.
