Be taken through 800 years of local history in a tour of Woodsome Hall a grade I listed building

The Tours at Woodsome will start by explaining why the Tyas family settled here in 1236 and built a fortified settlement with moat and gatehouse. Visitors will then be shown how the hall developed from an early English manor house to a timber framed hall built in 1462, a stone extension wing in 1602 and modernisation in 1700. When taken into the main hall they will see a near original space with the massive fireplace added in 1517 and a clock in 1652. On the upper landing visitors will see original timber work on their way to the drawing room created in 1700 with its decorative plaster work and access to the attached dining room raised on supporting pillars. Finally they will see the front terrace and driveway built as a new frontage in the 'Dutch' style to give the Hall a modern impact.

The story of the buildings will be enhanced by the stories of the; Tyas family who lived here from 1236 - 1370, the Kay family 1378 - 1726 and the Earls of Dartmouth 1236 - 1922.
