Bells, vicars and great stories
The parish Church of St. Martin, Bremhill, Calne, Wiltshire, SN11 1LA
Hear about the history and stories of people who contributed to the continuing life of the 800 year old church of St Martin. Parishioners from the surrounding villages of Bremhill were baptised, married and buried there, the carpenters, stonemasons, farmers, flower arrangers, grave diggers, bell ringers and vicars, some who were poets, the cleaners, the grasscutters, the glass makers and the soldiers who gave their lives.
The tours will focus not only on the history of the church, but will concentrate on important details of worship continuing to the present day, the bells, the organ and the vicars. Some of the people you will meet have ancestors going back generations who have played significant roles in the life of the church, sitting in pews which have also accommodated those spirits from the past.
