Brightholmlee Chapel, Wharncliffe Side

Brightholmlee Methodist Chapel was established over 200 years ago by Thomas Holy, a silversmith and button-maker, and a friend of John Wesley. There many old trades and crafts associated with Wharncliffe Side, such as wheelwrights, blacksmiths, swill or tub manufacturers, nail makers, and razor and file makers.

On your visit you’ll find out more about this historic part of Sheffield and you can chat to local history experts and see rare displays of historical documents, photos and artefacts including:

** Exhibition of 25 interesting old cameras from 1905 onwards, some with military connections
** Working demonstration of Magic Lantern from about 1920 including slides going back to 1890s
** vintage vehicles and antique farming artefacts

And discover the legend of the fire-breathing Dragon of Wantley who has roamed Wharncliffe Crags since the 17th Century!
