Tour of St Mary’s Church Graveyard, Bolsterstone
St Mary's Church, Heads Lane, Bolsterstone, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S36 3ZN
We will meet at the lychgates of Bolsterstone Church graveyard, right in the middle of the village. A gentle stroll around the churchyard will start with a brief history of the present church and we will tell you about some of the notable local people buried there. You will hear about the graveyard recording project with which we are involved and why we’ve taken the trouble to try to record the 4000+ interments!
Along the way, we will point out some interesting features and finally take a look back deep into the history of the earth as we focus on the geology of the headstones. The church will be open afterwards if you’d like to look round and we hope that refreshments will be available for a small donation to church funds.

Mostly the walk is on flat paths through the graveyard, although quite often people gather off the paths, around the graves so that they can hear. Wheelchairs would have footpath access to the graves. We do advise people not to walk off into the graveyard as the surface is uneven and sometimes covered in vegetation. Assistance dogs are welcome.
