Canley Everyday Histories
Prior Deram Park, Canley, Coventry, West Midlands, CV4 8FT
Canley Everyday Histories is a free, community-led heritage event taking place in Prior Deram Park, bringing together local residents, community groups, artists and partners to explore the diverse histories that shape Canley today.
The event will create a welcoming outdoor heritage space using marquees, gazebos and dedicated storytelling and activity areas. Seven local communities—English, Hong Kong, Malaysian, Polish, Sri Lankan and Somali communities, alongside the wider Canley community—will share aspects of their everyday heritage through traditional dishes, meaningful household objects and welcome phrases in their languages.
Visitors will be invited to explore a collective heritage display and hear stories about the objects, food, traditions and memories that connect people to Canley and to places of personal and family significance.
Young people and young adults will have a central creative role. Working with local artists, the Murky Duck Parent Group, Chit Chat Group, youth clubs and Westwood Academy Community Hero students, they will contribute ideas and designs for a collaborative fabric collage inspired by local memories and conversations.
The programme will also include creative workshops, family activities, storytelling and performances by the Crew Girls Dance Group and Canley Samba Band. Community food and hospitality stalls will provide opportunities for informal conversation and cultural exchange.
