Capitol Cine-theatre Tours & Public Consultation

As part of Heritage Open Days 2026, the Capitol Theatre Trust is inviting the public to explore the historic Capitol Theatre building, formerly home to Mecca Bingo and originally opened in 1929 as Scarborough's first purpose-built "talkie" cinema.

Visitors will have the rare opportunity to take part in guided tours of this Grade II listed building and learn more about ambitious plans to restore and reopen the Capitol as a theatre, cultural hub and community venue for future generations.

Alongside the tours, the Trust will be holding a public consultation, providing residents, businesses, community organisations and theatre lovers with the chance to share ideas, ask questions and contribute to the vision for the building's future.

Whether you have fond memories of the Capitol, are passionate about Scarborough's heritage, or are simply curious to see inside a building that has been closed to the public, this is a unique opportunity not to be missed.
