Caroline Colman: The Creator of Wellbeing in the Workplace - Talk
The Forum, Millennium Plain, Norwich, Norfolk, NR2 1TF
For the last two years John has been researching the eccentric and spicy world of mustard. The condiment’s history is full of incredible characters, and has lead him to making an episode of BBC Radio 4’s The Food Programme, In Search of Mustard in Norwich.
To some, it is Caroline Colman who first created wellbeing in the workplace. She built a canteen so Colman’s workers could have hot stew on their break. She checked in on all single women employed by Colman’s, sitting down with them once a week so they could check in on each other. Like many of the Colman family, and many involved in the history of mustard, she was an incredible human being, one whose story John is delighted to tell.
John Osborne writes poems, scripts and stories and is currently making a theatre show about his experiences with mustard. He has authored a story on Caroline Colman for VisitNorwich's year-long cultural celebration to mark twenty years of championing the city. Twenty Stories. One City, invites everyone to 'Step Into The Story' to discover the legacy of twenty people who have helped shape Norwich over a 1000 years.
