Chapel at Ledbury Cemetery, Ledbury

Normally closed to the public, the Victorian Cemetery Chapel offers a rare opportunity to step inside one of Ledbury's most overlooked historic buildings.

Built in 1861, the chapel was constructed after the churchyard at St Michael and All Angels reached capacity in the late 1850s. As part of the town's new cemetery, it was designed in response to the Burial Act 1857 and reflects the craftsmanship and architectural style of the Victorian era.

Constructed from local stone with elegant Bath stone dressings, the chapel retains many of its original features, including its raised reading platform, beautifully crafted oak vestry doors with decorative ironwork and impressive Gothic-style interior.

Outside, take time to wander through the peaceful cemetery grounds, originally laid out as a landscaped garden with winding paths, mature trees and historic monuments. Along the way, you'll discover the stories of generations of Ledbury families and gain a fascinating insight into how the town has evolved over more than 160 years.

This is a rare chance to explore a beautiful historic building that is not usually open to the public and discover a quieter, often overlooked chapter of Ledbury's history.
