A Victorian Time Capsule - As seen on the Lloyds TV advert, Hidden Britain by Drone, Abandoned Engineering...... A chance to visit Chatterley Whitfield Colliery, which closed in 1977 and became a museum. New Heritage Centre, NO UNDERGROUND TOURS

The Chatterley Whitfield Colliery site is acknowledged to be the most comprehensive surviving example of a deep mine site in England, with a range of surviving structures and buildings unequalled in any other former or surviving coalfield site in Britain. Not usually open to the public, this free guided tour by Chatterley Whitfield Friends will allow you to appreciate the splendid array of buildings on-site, which makes Chatterley Whitfield so unique.

There is no underground access, but there is limited access to site buildings subject to the approval of the City Council. The new Heritage Centre, new Memorial Garden and Artefacts Hall will be Open. Access will be very restrictive. A number of tours available will be made available BOOKABLE as usual through Eventbrite in August. The health and safety of members of the public and the volunteers are our first priority. Accessibility details

It is an old industrial site and there are areas of uneven ground. Strong sturdy shoes must be worn. No young persons under 7 year of age allowed.

Additional information

New Heritage Centre now Open. New Remembrance Garden Open Additional Display building will be open after 30 years of being inaccessible. featuring Lamp House Display and large mining artefacts, including three battery operated underground locos.
