Worked to Death: The Residents of Chesham Cemetery
Hearse House Exhibition Centre, Chesham Cemetery, Bellingdon Road, Chesham, Buckinghamshire, HP5 2NN
The Hearse House Heritage Centre will be hosting an exhibition featuring some of the interesting characters now interred in the cemetery. This includes some of the powerhouses of the local Victorian industries of brewing, brush making, boot & shoe making and brick making. Learn about their impact on the formerly sleepy and rural town of Chesham.
The Hearse House is a Victorian building near the Bellingdon Road entrance to the cemetery, which at one time housed the town's bier which was used to safely transport coffins up the narrow and sloping paths of the cemetery. The building is now a heritage centre run by the Friends of Chesham Cemetery.
Notable graves will be included in a self-guided walk round the cemetery.
