Coin Stories

Bourne Hall, Spring Street, Ewell, Surrey, KT17 1UF

  • 17 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

Bourne Hall Museum holds an extraordinarily large collection of historic coins. What do they tell us about the evolution of Epsom and Ewell, and the people that have come through the borough over the centuries ?

Ian Franklin's talk opens the door on the special nature of coinage. What was it used for ? Who used it ? How far had it travelled ?

The museum collection includes many Roman coins from nearby springs and the site of Stane Street - the Roman road from Chichester to London. There are both unusual and common coins from the Roman occupation as well as a wealth of coinage from the medieval through Tudor period to more modern day.
