Cornerstone Architecture Tour

Cornerstone, Sheep Street, Kettering, Northamptonshire, NN160AY

  • 19 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

An exciting renovation project is underway at Kettering Library and Alfred East Gallery, providing the unique opportunity to see two of Kettering’s iconic heritage buildings from a different perspective – up close and high up.

What happens when two Grade II listed buildings need their roofs replaced? See for yourself from the rooftops of Kettering’s historic Sheep Street. Enjoy tours of the scaffolding and gantries as this vital heritage preservation project continues, led by specialist heritage contractors, Messenger. Step into 120 years of Kettering history and see the changing face of the town’s architecture.

Down below in Manor House Gardens, Messenger’s slate and iron workers will be there to explain the re-roofing process, and give you the chance to get hands-on experience dressing the slates that will soon form part of the roof. Collyweston Historical and Preservation Society will be on hand to explain the origins of the slate, and the history of the village. Throughout the day, the Heritage Team from Alfred East Gallery will be in the Gardens, answering your questions on the history of the service, its collection, and our exciting plans for the future.
