Delve into the Cemetery’s 180-year past through informative displays, engage with Trustees, and discover the intriguing life stories of some of those laid to rest here.

This year marks 180 years since Cottenham Dissenters’ Cemetery was established by the Nonconformist churches. Formally opened on 12 June 1845, it has long served as a place of rest and remembrance for the local community, with around 4,000 individuals recorded in its register.

Join us in the tranquil surroundings and explore its origins and rich history. Discover the life stories of some of those laid to rest here, learn about the war graves, uncover the meanings behind Victorian grave symbols, and see our historic funeral bier on display. Cottenham Village Society will also be with us, sharing their extensive knowledge of local history and offering a selection of publications for sale.

Trustees will be on hand to answer any questions and assist visitors searching for specific graves. Whether you have a personal connection to the cemetery or a keen interest in local history, this is a unique opportunity to connect with Cottenham’s heritage and its past inhabitants.

Please note the cemetery continues to serve as place of rest and remembrance. We kindly ask all visitors to respect the burial grounds and be mindful of others who wish to come here seeking peace and reflection. Thank you.
