A delve into three well known women in Darfield who had a big impact on the local area.

We look at three creative and inspirational business women of Darfield:
Elizabeth Craven - Dance School Proprietor who gave confidence to many young girls
Denise Moody - Hair Stylist who created employment and increased self-esteem to the ladies of Darfield
Mrs Redmayne and the 'Palace of Dreams' - The Empire Cinema Darfield which closed on 29th December 1956 after 42 years.
These women affected the lives of many in the village and local area, and we explore stories about their businesses and hear from those who remember them.

Directions:
The Maurice Dobson Museum is situated in the heart of Darfield. It has no car park but there is on road parking and also parking available at the Church Hall next to the Church. The museum is easily accessed being a short distance from the A635 Doncaster Road.

Accessibility details

The main building entrance is up several steps, there is disabled access along the side of the building giving access to the area of the tea room, however there are steps within the building and uneven floors so it not suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs in the main part of the building. The exhibition rooms upstairs are accessed by a flight of stairs, so is not suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs or those unsteady on their feet.

Additional information

There is parking on the roads nearby. There is a tea room selling drinks and home-made cakes as well as a shop selling locally made crafts. Payment is by cash or card. There are a number of activity packs available for children attending. The museum is staffed by friendly volunteers who would be happy to help make your visit enjoyable and informative.
