Built in 1825, following the New Churches Act of 1818, the freehold of St George's Church was eventually acquired by the University of Sheffield in 1995 for use as a lecture theatre and residential accommodation. Rarely open to the public, during Heritage Open Days 2026 we are holding curated tours of the church and the surrounding burial ground. Why not book a tour and hear about the history of the church, the everyday histories of the people involved with the church and within the surrounding area, and the history of the peregrine falcons that return each year to nest in the tower.
