The devastating consequences of two world wars are reflected in this tranquil cemetery in a Yorkshire market town. There are 25 casualties buried in St Mary’s; eight from World War One and seventeen from World War Two. These casualties range from 18 to 58 years of age and died from wounds, sickness or accidents.
Aircrew from both world wars are buried here, including a Canadian Flying Instructor and the pilot of a Wellington bomber struck by an incoming aircraft. There is a soldier who died from wounds received in France in 1917, three seaman and a soldier who was killed alongside his wife in an air raid on Bournemouth in 1943.
