Loudon Lodge, Derby Arboretum, Grove St, Derbyshire, DE23 8FL
Derby Arboretum is a public park and arboretum in the city of Derby, and is listed as Grade II* on the Historic England Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.
It opened in 1840, to designs by John Claudius Loudon, following the donation of the land by local philanthropist Joseph Strutt, and was the first publicly owned, landscaped, urban, recreational park in England.
Michael McNaught, Community Parks Officer, has 16 years’ experience with Derby Parks Department and is passionate about the Arboretum and its continuing thriving and development, and will guide the group around the park,
The Arboretum holds Green Flag status and has been a Green Heritage Site since 2020. The Friends of Derby Arboretum were awarded The King's Award for Voluntary Service in 2023 for renovating a derelict building (now Loudon Lodge) and setting up a Community Garden.
There will be plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion.
Toilets and refreshments will be accessible before and after the walk at Loudon Lodge, and also at the Heart of the Park Cafe.
