Discover Stirchley History & Heritage at Stirchley Baths Community Centre

Come and take a look inside Grade 2 listed Stirchley Baths which has been a well-loved part of the Stirchley community for over 100 years. A swimming baths was first proposed in 1903 and the building was opened in 1911.
Tours of the Baths will be available, bookable on the day.
We will be commemorating the building reopening as a Community Centre in January 2016.

Learn more about the rich history and heritage of Stirchley as it rose from being a hamlet to a suburb of Birmingham.
There will photographs, maps and other information on display.

If you have anything to share please bring it along.

‘Lightening’ talks (no more than 10 minutes) based on local history, buildings and people will be delivered throughout the day.

Topics covered include;
Employment which was with a myriad of small companies as well as at Cadburys, GKN, railway companies and Ten Acres and Stirchley Cooperative Society.
Women’s work in the home included daily food shopping and washing clothes by hand.
Social life which revolved around the local public houses (such as the Grade 2 listed British Oak which is celebrating its centenary), churches and sports clubs promoted by local companies.
