This talk is brief exploration of the importance of the Port of Dover as an early Roman harbour and fortification through the lens of the ‘Classis Britanica’. How the fort was discovered and protected, some of the key discoveries it provided for our understanding of early Roman Britian and how the fort sits within the context of the other spectacular Roman remains that are to be found within the town.
