Museum with 'Around Downham...Then and Now' ' photographic display, friendly cafe and Fire Engine

Discover Downham, a perfectly sized museum for all the family to enjoy, opened in 2016 in the former Old Fire Station. The bus stops close by. Partly built of carstone, the exterior is rendered but still retains the Fire Bay with roller door, which used to house the Fire Engine.

Come and speak to knowledgeable volunteers about the history of Downham Market at Discover Downham Heritage Centre in Priory Road.
Look around the exciting displays where you can hear the sounds of Downham's past. A new interactive children's area is ideal for getting hands on by guessing what items were used for, before electricity.

Mike Bullen, a well known collector, will have a special display 'Around Downham...Then & Now' of hundreds of photographs from the past 200 years which will take you back to living in our Gingerbread Town.

The Cafe selling homemade cakes and bakes will be open if you need to rest your feet and a modern Fire Engine will be at the centre on the day...and perhaps a vintage appliance!
