Downham Market: Explore the Gingerbread Town

Town Hall, Bridge Street, Downham Market, Norfolk, PE38 9DW

  • 21 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Affectionately known as The Gingerbread Town.

Come and explore Downham Market by vintage bus or foot, its buildings, people and history.

Downham Market & District Heritage Society, a charity which runs Discover Downham Heritage Centre in Downham Market, are collaborating with the Town Council and organising the first town wide Heritage Open Day in the town.

Wander through this compact, pretty Georgian town with its carstone buildings and enjoy seeing and learning about a number of buildings that will be open to the public, many for the first time. Get a different view from on top of a Routemaster bus or a vintage coach which will
be dropping off at venues around town.

Alongside there will be a range of activities for all ages, including Photographic and Art Exhibitions with an Architectural theme in the Town Hall, together with Traditional crafts being demonstrated in the Main Hall.

Guided Town Walks, Vintage Bus/Coach Rides, Re-enactments bringing the story of Downham to life, Molly Dancing, a Town Trail, two Post Box Toppers depicting Downham Market, a Ukulele band and Rock Choir. Classic and Vintage Vehicles of all types on the Howdale and a special Agricultural machinery display relating to the Farming history of Downham on the Market Square.
