Elizabeth Love Museum Pontefract
6 Castle Chain, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, WF8 1QH
The building was originally the Main Guard and Barbican of Pontefract Castle, was used as a debtors prison in the 18th century and was once an antiques shop, visited by Queen Mary in 1935. The house became a private residence in the 1960's, when Joe, Elizabeth and their father Joe moved in.
The Love's were an ordinary family, Joe junior a miner and Elizabeth a nurse, however they had a passion for collecting, with an interest in the development of local crafts and industries. The house has been preserved; in the main; much as Elizabeth and Joe lived in it, with very few modern fixtures and fittings.
The newly re-opened Museum covers three floors and volunteer guides will provide a guided tour and be available for questions.
