Everyday lives, and more curiosities
St. Wilfrids Church, Church Lane, Barrow-on-Trent, Derby, Derbyshire, DE73 7HB
The registers of our small rural church tell a fascinating story of the everyday lives of the villagers. In addition, there are more small curiosities in our church, following on from our successful 2024 HODs weekend showing "Curiosities in a small church".
Our Anglo-Saxon church will be open with a film showing 'Barrow upon Trent in the 1300s', again showing the everyday activities of the villagers, ranging from blacksmith to wine importing, and Cream Teas will be on offer over the weekend.
Churchyard tours will be available, and visitors can also spend free time walking around the village, using our published tour guides, looking around the various interesting features.

The church is fully wheelchair accessible from the road via a graded pathway and level access into the building. The churchyard is grassed and uneven around the whole of the church. Many people will cope with the uneven terrain, but there is a tarmacadam path around the church that gives visual access to large parts of the churchyard for those with limited mobility.
We encourage visitors to park in the Parish Car Park on Twyford Road to prevent overcrowding on Church Lane. The churchyard tours will take place as and when sufficient numbers of visitors are on site. Tour information will be on an information board. Dogs are welcome on the churchyard tour, but must be well-behaved and under close control if entering the church building, for the safety of elderly or disabled visitors.
