Exhibition: Abingdon at Work

This exhibition is set in the Guildhall - one of Abingdon's most important historic buildings, some of it dating back to the time of the Abbey.
In the stunning Roysse Room you can find out about the working lives of the hundreds of people employed in brewing and printing across several centuries - and the civil engineering projects which gradually improved the lives of those who lived and worked in Abingdon.
In the Magistrates Court you can see the bench and dock which were in use till the late 20thC then watch our two specially-commissioned oral history videos:

Our Working Lives: the past comes to life as Abingdon people tell the rich stories of their working lives in agriculture, Morlands brewery, the MG Factory, Pavlova Leatherworks, the wartime RAF and Harwell.
Saturday visitors will also be able to climb the 18thC carved staircase and explore the rest of the historic rooms: the Council Chamber, with its important historical portraits, the Bear Room and its intriguing history and finally the Abbey Room - once used as a prison!

The Exhibition is fully wheelchair accessible. Sadly, the other historic Guildhall Rooms are only accessible by stairs.
