Experience life in the Workhouse
Knutsford Heritage Centre, 90A King Street, Knutsford, Cheshire, WA16 6ED
In conjunction with the talk on Knutsford Workhouse by Jenny Collis at the Jubilee Hall you can have a go at hands on workhouse experiences at Knutsford Heritage Centre.
Join our Victorian volunteers and find out what it was like to learn in a workhouse and what punishments were given if you misbehaved. Be ready to wear the Dunce's cap if it fits. You can also see what sort of food they ate and the work that inmates had to do. Do you fancy oakum picking or scrubbing clothes with carbolic soap?
It was a harsh life but we will make it fun as well. Suitable for all the family.
