Explore the fogous of West Cornwall
Carn Euny Ancient Village, Sancreed, Penzance, Cornwall, TR20 8RB
As part of the 2026 Heritage Open Days Festival, we are inviting you to join our expert volunteer for a free guided tour of this fascinating site, including the fogou and the Holy Well. Among the best-preserved ancient villages in South West England, Carn Euny was occupied from the Iron Age until late Roman times. It includes the foundations of stone houses from the 2nd to 4th centuries AD, with walls up to a metre high in places. At the heart of the village is its most intriguing feature – a stone-walled underground passage known as a fogou. This mysterious type of Iron Age monument is found only in the far west of Cornwall.
The tour will take place on Thursday 17 September at 11:00 am and will last approx 2 hours. Meet at the car park. Please note that parking is extremely limited at Carn Euny - please park considerately. Alternative parking can be found at Chapel Carn Brea, which is a 30 minute walk to Carn Euny.
