Extraordinary impact of everyday education heroes
Nottingham College, Adams Building, Stoney Street, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, NG1 1NG
For more than a century, Skills and Education Group has been creating social impact through education. Together with the Boots Archive and Nottingham College's Adam's Building, we invite you to discover a specially curated collection that celebrates our shared histories and explores the social themes that have shaped lives, communities and opportunities across generations.
Through photographs, documents and personal stories, this archive reveals how education, employment, social mobility and community development have evolved over the decades. It highlights the everyday heroes who worked to transform lives by widening access to learning and creating opportunities for people to achieve their potential.
By connecting the challenges and aspirations of the past with those of today, the collection demonstrates how many of the issues that shaped previous generations continue to influence society and inspire our mission.
The original archive was co-curated by Emma Thompson and Robyn Whalley for Skills and Education Group. In 2026, we are working alongside Sophie Clapp from the Boots Archive, with creative direction by Yasmin Nutt. Hosted at The Adams Building in collaboration with Nottingham College, the exhibition is supported by Richard Thorpe of CPMG Architects, lead architect for the building's restoration and guide to its history.
