Family Art Workshop - Jelly x Mills Archive Trust
Watlington House, 44 Watlington Street, Reading, Berkshire, RG1 4RJ
As part of Heritage Open Days 2025, Jelly and the Mills Archive Trust and Jelly invite families to take part in a fun, free drop-in art workshop at the historic Watlington House in Reading on Saturday 13th September, from 10am to 12pm. This creative session is perfect for children and adults to enjoy together, combining hands-on art activities with inspiring stories about renewable energy from Reading’s past and present.
Led by an experienced local artist from Jelly and supported by experts from the Mills Archive Trust, the workshop will explore how natural forces like wind and water have powered communities for centuries - and how they can shape a greener future. Using various art mediums, families will imagine and create their own artistic responses to energy, nature, and innovation, taking inspiration from real local mills and environmental themes.
The workshop is part of Reading EmPOWERed, a National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported project celebrating the people and technologies that have powered Reading through time. Thanks to National Lottery players, we’re able to offer this event completely free, and each Lottery player who attends will receive a small thank-you gift on arrival.
Come along for a relaxed, family-friendly morning of creativity, history, and imagination - and discover how the past can spark ideas for a more sustainable future. No experience needed and all materials provided!
