Design a “Rugby Boots & Mining Roots” heritage display using historic programmes, photos, tickets, and newspaper clippings to explore the connection between Rugby League and mining communities, in Featherstone.

Step into local history by creating your own “Rugby Boots & Mining Roots” heritage display! Working in teams, you will use old rugby programmes, photographs, tickets, newspaper clippings, memorabilia, and mining-themed materials to build a fun and eye-catching exhibition celebrating the connection between rugby and mining communities.

Groups can sort through the materials, pick out their favourite items, and arrange them into creative displays that tell stories about local teams, match days, mining life, community spirit, and family traditions. Add headlines, captions, fun facts, timelines, or mini stories to bring the displays to life and make them stand out.

This hands-on activity is all about teamwork, creativity, and discovering how rugby and mining helped bring communities together. Participants can share memories, learn surprising facts, and explore how sport played a big part in everyday life for mining families in and around Featherstone.
