Felixstowe Museum - Explore the Submarine Mining Building
Felixstowe Museum, View Point Road, Felixstowe, Suffolk, IP11 3TW
Felixstowe Museum will be open for free to the public for Heritage Open Day 2025. As well as fourteen rooms of permanent and temporary exhibitions telling the story of Felixstowe, visitors are invited to explore the unique building the Museum calls home! Built in 1878, the building was part of the Submarine Mining Establishment at Landguard Fort, and may be the last surviving purpose built example in the country.
Whilst at the Museum, visitors can discover our collections ranging from prehistoric mammoth teeth to modern amusement arcades. In addition, drop into the Museum's Beside the Seaside exhibition, which for the first time tells the story of Felixstowe's rapid rise from barren cliff to a premier seaside destination. To celebrate Heritage Open Day, the Museum's Beehive Cafe will be serving an even wider selection of delicious cakes and snacks than usual.
Suffolk Libraries first ever 'Environmentalist in Residence', Clare Sams, will also be at the Museum to deliver workshops teaching sustainable textile skills as part of her Self/Contained exhibition, which is on display this season at Felixstowe Museum.
