This iconic landmark was part of Palmerston's defenses initiated in anticipation of a war with France.
Join our guided tour through areas of the Fort to witness the amazing architecture and heritage.
There will be areas of uneven surfaces, inclines and steps.

The Fort is a Historical Scheduled Monument and Grade 2 Listed Building which is protected under law. Its design and age dictate that there are areas of uneven floor, steps and ramps, and dimly lit areas. Please consider this carefully if you are of limited mobility. This site is monitored by CCTV to protect our legitimate interests in keeping the site safe. Our full privacy notice is available from reception, or from our website. This event must be pre- booked through Eventbrite • Fort Purbrook is on the junction between Crookhorn Lane and Portsdown Hill • it may be sunny but the tunnels can get chilly! • sturdy footwear please - not sandals or crocs • a torch is handy to have to see details • have your ticket QR code handy ready to scan - either a paper copy or on your phone. • limited parking available outside the front of the Fort • no dogs please • there is livestock on site.
