From Mining village to Millenium village: the industrial heritage of Allerton Bywater

This walk will trace the long history of coal mining in the area. You will discover a lot more about Allerton Bywater including the Riverside Staithe, the canalisation of the River Aire, the history of Allerton's Pottery and not least Samuel Valentine's Food Hall where you can enjoy the very best of local produce.

The walk will be on mainly flat surfaces but has some uneven stretches so unfortunately is not suitable for wheelchair users. Walking shoes/boots recommended. There is limited parking at Samuel Valentines; please respect the needs of local residents when parking on nearby streets.

Samuel Valentine's staff will be happy to welcome you to the Food Hall where you can purchase pre walk refreshments and a wide range of delicious local produce. Toilets are available for customers. Please note the Food Hall closes at 15.30.
