Fascinating free guided tours of the Fursdon historic family house, with beautiful gardens to explore, also for free. Our historic Coach Hall tearoom will also be open to enjoy delicious home bakes or a Devonshire cream tea (tearoom charges apply).

Fursdon is one of Devon’s oldest family homes where the Fursdon family has lived for more than 765 years.

Experience the evolution of a building originating over 765 years ago and hear stories about the family that have lived here since 1259. The tour includes a fascinating visit to the family museum, where you will see costumes and other precious items. We are delighted to have a very special display of artefacts found at Cadbury Castle, a Roman Hill Fort and well-known local landmark which is close by on the estate. Relaxed and informative house tours are available at 1430 and 1530, taking approximately 50 minutes.

Explore our attractive and informal garden, with mixed traditional and contemporary planting - roses, herbs and bulbs; wild flowers, trees and shrubs. This hillside garden has interest and colour throughout the seasons with sculpted paths leading around its contours into a terraced and cob walled garden. There is a further walk down to the Meadow Garden currently undergoing restoration - it now has a pond to encourage wildlife. There are vistas and views throughout the garden and plenty of carefully placed benches to make the most of them.

While you are at Fursdon, you may also like to stay for a Devon cream tea or a home baked treat in the Coach Hall & Courtyard tea-room. The tea-room and garden are open from 1400-1700
