What ordinary Geordie people did towards the war effort in WW2 - not every hero(ine) wore a uniform.

Join us to commemorate the wide variety of roles played by ordinary people during World War Two.

Fishermen, Women's Voluntary Service, Boy Scouts, Lumber Jills, Land Army, Coal Miners and a whole host of people and tasks all made huge contributions during wartime. These roles are often unrecognised and increasingly forgotten. We aim to bring these to life with our own Living History Display, giving you a chance to immerse yourself in activities from the time.

This will include Make-Do_And Mend, cooking within rations, dealing with constant threat, "Reserved" occupations, volunteering and a wide range of tasks that echo some of todays issues. It wasn't all doom and gloom though, so we will also be entertaining "the troops".

There will be a re-enactment of invasion rehearsals, as local beaches were considered ripe for landing on and the local area is littered with defensive elements that most of us do not notice. Come and find out more.

This is a whole village event, including the local church, so expect those bells as early warning. Our NAAFI will be providing refreshments and we have additional displays and activities at the Village Hall. Just like the real thing.
If you can dress in period costume, even better - you might win a prize.
