  • 12 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

A chance to enjoy a guided tour of one of just two Grade 1 listed buildings in Watford. The tour will cover the history, architecture and artwork of the church, which was built in 1890 in the Gothic Revival style.

This tour will touch on the history of the Catholic Church in Watford, and explain the social and historical context of the building, and how it came to be built. It will also illuminate the neo-gothic architectural vision of the architect John Francis Bentley, the foremost ecclesiastical architect of his day, who went on to design Westminster Cathedral. The tour will highlight the main architectural and artistic features of the church, including its abundance of stained glass, and how these reflect religious practice and belief. The building provides a unique and surprising architectural experience right in the middle of the town. The church is open every day for public access, but this tour is being run specifically for Heritage Open Days.
