Guided walks of Wisbech General Cemetery

Between 12 and 3, volunteers from the Friends of Wisbech Cemetery will take people on a tour of the cemetery in small groups. Includes historical perspective, natural history, stories of some of those buried, giving aspects of social and local history. We have activity sheets for families or young people. The cemetery was founded in 1836 originally as a garden cemetery and closed in 1972. It is managed to balance variety of nature, a tranquil place to walk or sit, and respect for the gravestones and the dead. Some variety of trees wild flowers and birds. The chapel was restored a few years ago on the initiative of the Wisbech Society.

Main path is wheel chair accessible although some tree roots or stones make the path uneven in places. Access to Chapel and toilet. People are advised not to go off the paths because of uneven ground.
We aim to take small groups around as they gather and tailor talk to audience. We can serve a cup of tea, and there is the Asda café next door. roadside parking.
