The Halifax Playhouse is a Grade II listed building owned by the Halifax Thespians, It was bought and rejuvenated from the original 1836 Methodist Chapel into a thriving member owned theatre, first opening its doors in 1949.

The Heritage Open Day provides visitors the chance to see behind the scenes of Halifax Playhouse; discovering places where the general public would not normally go. It’s a chance to see what it’s like to stand on a stage; how the high tech sound and lighting equipment is used to enhance performances and understand the huge amount of work and fun that goes into putting on shows and running a vibrant theatre.

Accessibility details

Our theatre, the Halifax Playhouse, has a fully accessible main entrance. It is stair free and ramped. This is on Hanover Street. The council on street parking, and the council car park to the rear of the building is free of charge for blue badge holders, but there are no specifically designated disabled spaces. Our auditorium access from the foyer is stair free and wheelchair accessible. The Bar and back stage areas are not accessible by wheelchair or by anyone with mobility issues.
